Velvet-fronted Nuthatch (Sitta frontalis)

This bird is small and active. It has sharp claws that make it possible to hold itself in any position. You can find this bird from coastline to the forest. Happy birding

Lantern bug

I miss Bornean Black Magpie this morning. When I arrive the birding place I hear loud call probably of the bird that I do not know the exact point from where it is. I bring my bino and start locating the sound from but I mistake I forgot to carry along the camera. It appear within the reach of my 100-400mm IS Lens and really miss to photographing the hard to find bird. Waiting for it to come again but never show up again. These are my activities at late afternoon after the rain stop. Happy birding.

Black-collared Starling (Sturnus nigricollis)

Probably feral to this country Kota Kinabalu, Sabah East_Malaysia. Last seen was in the year 2008. Feral bird like Blue-naped Parrot already establishes their residence here at Kota Kinabalu where they are many can be seen at our Prince Philip beach. Once time too many seen make terrible noise! It looks this starling seem can create the same too when many. Happy birding.


Violet Cuckoo (Chrysococcyx xanthorhynchus)

It is consider lucky today to find cuckoo in a family. I have seen the juvenile bird before which being fed by olive-backed sunbird. In the field birding are me, Ben and Wan. Happy birding.

Common Ringed Plover (Charadrius hiaticula)

Looking for White-faced Plover at the beach that possibly the bird appear here at Kota Kinabalu. Upon waiting, spotted this Common Ringed Plover and as usual always one bird on the beach. The plover this time has more distinctly distiguishable orange color from the bill base to about half of its bill length. Last seen it was only slight orange appear at the very base of the bill. This bird has been staying here very long already. A male breeding bird. Happy birding.

Banded Woodpecker (Picus miniaceus)

After the whole day birding nothing to hear the sound of Cinnamon-rumped Trogon which I heard two days ago. My target to see and photograph the trogon is fail. Hope next time shall have the chance with the trogon. While this Banded Woodpecker show up late of the day. Happy birding.

Narcissus Flycatcher (Ficedula narcissina)

So far I see this bird once every year and this is the 2nd. time in 2 years. It appeared just about 3m from me. It really made me in chaos. It was just lucky it stayed longer on the branch pecking small insects. Photographed the same day with my lifer Red-naped Trogon. Happy birding.

It is said that this bird is threatened by habitat loss. Yuuupp!! the forest is getting smaller and smaller!! Hope the young still have thier chance to see this species. Today I have a good chance for first time to see and admire the beauty of this bird. I am happy. Happy birding.
